The most common question we are asked before an engagement or couple’s shoot is, what should we wear? Check out the tips below so you & your partner feel comfortable and confident!

Here are some general guidelines that will help you choose the perfect clothing for you and your babe!

START WITH ONE PIECE
It’s a lot easier to coordinate your outfits once you know what one piece looks like! Try starting with one piece and go from there!

STAY AWAY FROM MATCHY MATCHY
Everyone in white shirts and blue jeans are a thing of the past! You do NOT need to match! Choose colors that complement each other: for example; soft colors (light blue, gray, blush) or warm colors (brown, orange, burgundy).

COLORS
Once you’ve nailed down your location, you can think about color options. If you’re taking pictures outdoors, solid colors are your friend with a few patterns mixed in. Using a combination of deep and neutral undertones, set in lush green woods or on sandy beaches will look the best. If you’re indoors, think about your surroundings. Don’t pick colors that clash with colors in the room. Or colors that will blend in. We also recommend to use more muted colors. Bright reds, oranges, yellows, blues, can cast color onto the skin making skin tones uneven and not appealing.

SHOES
Shoes can make or break your outfit!  If you can’t find shoes you love, consider going barefoot (just bring walking shoes to get from point A to point B). Stay away from athletic shoes and bright white sneakers.

TRY THEM ON
Check your outfits from all possible angles in the mirror, not just the one you like best. Try sitting, squatting, leaning forward, etc. We always recommend taking a photo of yourself from front and back in the outfit you are choosing to make sure you really love it and are comfortable!

LAYERS AND ACCESSORIES
Quickest way to take your outfits from average to amazing! Think scarves, blazers, cardigans, belts, jewelry, and hats.

FITTED CLOTHING
You don't want your clothing to be too baggy or too tight. Properly fitted clothing will not only make you feel comfortable, but will show your shape. For women, your upper half and lower half should be balanced: for example; blousy shirt + skinny pants, or tight shirt + flowing skirt. There is a lot of movement in our couple’s session, so outfits should fit comfortably and give room to move around! Fellas, stay away from loose clothing as they are not appealing in photos.

HOLIDAY COLORS
Even if you’re planning to use these images for your holiday cards, steer away from holiday-colored clothing and let your card design incorporate those instead. That way you’ll be able to enjoy your images year-round!

TINY PLAID & COMPLICATED PATTERNS
These don’t always translate well in-camera and should be avoided. Be selective with your patterns, and once again, take a photo of yourself to make sure it looks good in a photo!

GO CASUAL
We want your personality to show with your photos. If you are not into dressing up, go causal! A nice t-shirt and jeans that fit well, totally work and often look great! Below are some example of how to do casual right!

MISC
Make sure to check clothing for wrinkles, animal hair & stains.
Men’s button downs can end up getting wrinkled fast, so we recommend wrinkle free material.
Ladies, flowy dress/skirts always photograph great and create awesome movement that we love!

Most important, comfort is key! We want you to have the best session possible and clothing is a big part of it! If you need help with coordinating outfits, we are here to help!
