Garrett Family {Downtown Nashville, Tennessee}

Ok. So. This family. :) When we first met them in downtown Nashville, we knew we were going to have a blast adventuring around town with them! Cowboy boots, smiles and a whole lot of laughs ensued as we walked around various parts of the city, including a pedestrian only bridge! It's for foot traffic only, and perched at the top is a spot where the skyline is right in front of you, to marvel in the lights, in the sounds and just for a second, let it take you on a musical journey.

We are so grateful for adventures, that allow us to meet such wonderful people along the way.

Doyle Family | Lifestyle Session | South Bend, IN

Family time is the absolute best time, especially when you get to welcome a new addition into the family! And we just have to say ... lifestyle sessions are our absolute favorite! Getting the opportunity to come into your home, capturing your own environment, while enjoying precious moments together ... well, we couldn't ask for anything better!

I have loved getting to know the Doyle family over the past few years and was excited to get to meet - and photograph - their newest addition, with the whole family! There was a whole lot of love, and a whole lot of laughs and we couldn't be happier for their most beautiful new arrival.

Family Time: What to Expect

We just want to say a huge thank you for choosing Hey Sisters! Photography to capture your family moments!

To get the most out of your session, here’s what you can expect before, during and after your time with us!

BEFORE THE SESSION
After you’ve filled out our online contract (if we forgot to send that to you, you can fill it out here: http://www.heysistersphotography.com/contract) and sent in your deposit, we can talk about the fun stuff! Like where you’d like your session to be! We are “on-location” photographers, which means we want to photograph your family doing what you love to do best! That can be spending time outdoors, at your favorite park, hiking a trail or two; around a campfire, toasting smores and telling stories, or maybe it’s at home, playing your favorite board game together … whatever it might be, we want to join in on your family fun! So let us know some of your ideas, or we can share some of ours and we’ll make an adventure to remember!

Don’t fret too much on what to wear. The BEST advice we can give is to wear what feels like you! But if you need some helpful ideas, you can check out our What to Wear blog HERE.

DURING THE SESSION
Be prepared to laugh! A lot. We like to bring out the silliness in the whole family, so bring your favorite jokes! And we’ll try to tell a few too! We like to shoot a mixture of posed and candid photos. Basically, you and your family doing what you do best, and enjoying all the moments in between. So we’ll pose you in a way that you’re able to interact with each other, and occasionally we’ll ask you to look at the camera! If you have little ones, we like to suggest bringing some of their favorite things! Maybe a favorite blankey, stuffed animal, a toy … some fruit snacks or a lollipop sometimes can help too!

AFTER THE SESSION
After your session, we like to post a little preview to Facebook and Instagram! So we’d love for you to connect with us on social media if you haven’t already! From there, it takes us, on average, two weeks to edit the remainder of your images. We’ll then upload them to a private, online gallery where you can view, share and download your images. If you are sharing your images on social media, we always appreciate a shout out! You can also print your images as well, and if you use the code: 9EZJP, you’ll receive 20% off your order! But don’t worry, you don’t have to order from us! We’ll provide you a print release to print your images at a later time too! Our favorite online print lab is MPIX.com. They are a professional photo lab, with comparable print prices from Walgreen’s or Walmart, but the quality is top notch! We are always on hand after your session as well, to answer any lingering questions you may have, or to help you with product/print orders, so call us or email us anytime!

We hope this helps, but feel free to ask us any and all questions you might have! We can’t wait for to capture your family.

Family Time: What to Wear

The most common question we are asked before a family photo shoot, is what should we wear? We have come up with a few tips so everyone feels comfortable and confident!

Here are some general guidelines that will help you choose the perfect clothing for your family’s next photo session!

START WITH ONE OUTFIT
It’s a lot easier to coordinate everyone's outfits once you know what one piece looks like! Try starting with mom or daughter, since women’s clothing tend to have more colors and prints.

STAY AWAY FROM MATCHY MATCHY
Everyone in white shirts and blue jeans are a thing of the past! Everyone does NOT need to match! Choose colors that complement each other: for example; soft colors (light blue, gray, blush) or warm colors (brown, orange, burgundy).

COLORS
Once you’ve nailed down your location, you can think about color options for the whole family! If you’re taking pictures outdoors, solid colors are your friend with a few patterns mixed in. Using a combination of deep and neutral undertones, set in lush green woods or on sandy beaches will look the best. If you’re indoors, think about your surroundings. Don’t pick colors that clash with colors in the room. Or colors that will blend in. We also recommend to use more muted colors. No bright red, oranges, blue, etc.

SHOES
Shoes can make or break your outfit!  If you can’t find shoes you love, consider going barefoot (just bring walking shoes to get from point A to point B). Stay away from athletic shoes and bright white sneakers.

TRY THEM ON
Check your outfits from all possible angles in the mirror, not just the one you like best. Try sitting, squatting, leaning forward, etc. The kids’ clothes should work well in motion so that we can play during your session (think flying, tickling, and hanging upside down). Check clothing for wrinkles, animal hair & stains.

LAYERS AND ACCESSORIES
Quickest way to take your outfits from average to amazing! Think scarves, blazers, cardigans, belts, jewelry, fun socks, and hats.

FITTED CLOTHING
You don't want your clothing to be too baggy or too tight. Properly fitted clothing will not only make you feel comfortable, but will show your shape. For women, your upper half and lower half should be balanced: for example; blousy shirt + skinny pants, or tight shirt + flowing skirt.

HOLIDAY COLORS
Even if you’re planning to use these images for your holiday cards, steer away from holiday-colored clothing and let your card design incorporate those instead. That way you’ll be able to enjoy your images year-round!

SHORT-SLEEVED T-SHIRTS
Button-down or structured shirts generally look better in photos. If you have your heart set on a t-shirt, try layering a blazer on top.

TINY PLAID & COMPLICATED PATTERNS
These don’t always translate well in-camera.

Most important, comfort is key!

Myers Family (Notre Dame) South Bend, Indiana

FAM-I-LY noun. plural- families. One of life's greatest blessings. A group of persons sharing a common ancestry. A group of people will love and support each other through the good times as well as the bad.

We met the Myers' family on a perfect day at Notre Dame. Trace and Kelly, and their children Charlie and Alyssa's smiles and laughter were infectious! We had such a great time getting to know them and capture some sweet moments!

Trace surprised Kelly with a family session for her birthday, and we couldn't think of a more perfect gift!

We love the versatility of Notre Dame. It's a perfect backdrop for these special moments, with this special family.

Family is everything, and we love being able to capture that in sweet, simple sessions just like this one!
